Lyptus hardwood lumber, plywood, and veneer are growing in popularity for their unique combination of exotic allure, excellent physical properties, and environmental attributes. Lyptus® trees are grown on plantations in Brazil using sustainable forestry practices. In addition to its environmental benefits, Lyptus hardwood has exceptional grain and color, giving warmth and beauty to finished cabinetry, furniture, and millwork.
Lyptus Lumber
When it comes to density, strength, and other technical properties, Lyptus lumber compares favorably with hard maple, while in appearance it rivals cherry and mahogany. Lyptus lumber varies in color from dark red to light pink, and its density varies depending on color-the darker color is similar to hickory in density and the lighter color is similar to birch and ash in density. In addition, Lyptus lumber exhibits these attributes:
- Comes in three color-sorted grades
- Has good machining and turning properties
- Glues and holds fasteners well
- Sands to a smooth, semi-polished surface
- Comes in thicknesses from 4/4 to 8/4
- Comes in lengths from 6 feet to 16 feet
- Has moisture content of 7 to 9 percent
- Is protected during shipment by water-resistant packaging

- Comes in 1/4-, 3/8-, 1/2-, 5/8-, 3/4-, and 1-inch thicknesses

What's an exotic choice for architects wanting beautiful interior designs? Lyptus veneers, which round out the Lyptus® hardwood family of materials. In addition to their classic beauty and versatility, Lyptus veneers have the following attributes:
- Thicknesses of 0.6 millimeters (mm) (nominal 1/42 inch) and 1.6 mm (nominal 1/16 inch)
- Widths of 10 centimeters (cm) (3.9 inches) and up
- Lengths of 200 cm (78 inches) and up
- Four grades to choose from: AA, A, B, and C
- Grain pattern in flat cut and quarters, with limited availability of special figured and burl types
